With the fantastic support of Smooth Radio and its charity partnership£93,000 was raisedto help people living with cancer.

And in 2008 Smooth Radio will continue to support Macmillan Cancer Support in the North West. Cancer incidence in the North West Region is amongst the highest in England and Wales. It is expected to increase throughout the 2000’s. The average number is expected to increase from 35,000 in 2005 to 48,000 in 2018. That’s a massive increase in cancer incidents of 37.3%.

Below are some examples of how the money you have raised could be used to help people living with cancer – thank you!

  • £47,758 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a year, giving people living with cancer and their families essential medical, practical and emotional support.

Macmillan lymphoedema teams

Lymphoedema is a condition that affects the lymphatic system and causes swelling of the limbs, due to fluid retention. Treatment includes drainage, bandaging, exercises and skincare, provided by our Macmillan lymphoedema nurses and lymphoedema physiotherapists.

Macmillan rehabilitation support teams

We provide Macmillan rehabilitation support teams. They are based in the community that provide a range of rehabilitation support, such as physiotherapy and advice on diet, to people living with cancer.
